the Harry Potter The series takes place during a wizard war and wizards duel with their wands. It’s a skill Hogwarts students take years to develop, with some having more success than others. Throughout the series, Harry encounters several gifted witches and wizards who display impressive talent, most of whom are his teachers or members of the Order of the Phoenix.
Editor Trahan94 shared a thoughtful list of all the major Harry Potter characters and how they rank when it comes to dueling ability. Other Redditors chimed in, either agreeing or disagreeing with their picks. The result was a heated discussion about the best wizards and witches. In the end, based on the points raised by these Redditors, several awesome characters were selected.
Throughout most of the series, Molly is seen as a very capable mother and wife. She guards her house, argues with her husband and keeps an impressive eye on her seven children. However, in Deathly Hallows, she shocked the public by defeating one of the most dangerous dark wizards in Voldemort’s army.
Bellatrix hadn’t expected such a fight from Mrs. Weasley, but her rage at her son’s death turned out to be more than she could bear. Editor GeneralSummers felt that Molly’s victory placed her above all “Weasley family” fighters, and should grant her a place of honor among the top Duelists.
While Harry is the titular character of the series, he does not show an extraordinary level of skill compared to the adult wizards around him. This led to a huge debate among Redditors, who couldn’t decide if Harry really deserved a top spot.
However, Purple pointed out that Harry’s bravery and quick wit made up for his lack of skill with a variety of spells. They gave the example of Harry blowing up Hedwig’s cage during the Battle of the Seven Potters, calling it “a pretty creative duel”. Additionally, the fact that he ended up surviving several battles with skilled wizards, along with his subsequent accomplishments as an Auror, earned him a top ten spot on Redditors.
Lupine lost his life at the Battle of Hogwarts, but he had always proven himself to be a very effective fighter. He was the best DADA teacher Harry had ever had, and had a phenomenal working knowledge of a large number of spells.
Editor MyrkoMyrkos stated that although Lupine eventually died, he previously “came out of his fights mostly intact”. He fought his way through the Battle of the Seven Potters with an injured George, and took down several Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries, proving that Remus Lupin is extremely brave and very capable.
Sirius has always been considered a very talented wizard. He and James were known to be a force to be reckoned with, for better or for worse. Similar to Lupin, some Redditors felt he shouldn’t qualify because of his death, but Redditor SneakyGandalf12 pointed out that he “had already survived the First Wizarding War”.
In the end, Sirius was eliminated due to his own arrogance, and possibly because he had spent so much time out of commission in Azkaban. However, his reputation showed that at his best game, there was little that could have eliminated Sirius.
Professor Flitwick was a Charms professor at Hogwarts, and Harry knew he was a professional dueling champion. He was short and pleasant-minded, but he proved himself in the Battle of Hogwarts to be an extremely capable wizard and one who had clearly earned his title.
Editor OtterTheDruid pointed out that many others couldn’t have beaten Flitick in a “one-on-one duel”, making him one of the best when it comes to technical skill. However, in a battle setting, he still may not have been on par with the other fighters.
Professor McGonagall might look like an old woman, but she was one of the best witches in the world. Harry Potter series. This, combined with her advanced Transfiguration skills and quick wit, made Minerva McGonagall one of Hogwarts’ most fearsome fighters.
When Redditors challenged high placement Trahan94 had given to him on their list, they pointed out that McGonagall had changed “a torch flame to a serpent, then to a dagger in rapid succession”, during her battle with Snape. The duel was one of the most impressive Harry had ever seen, solidifying McGonagall’s place.
Bellatrix was Voldemort’s most loyal servant, and the only one of his soldiers he had seemed angry to lose. Harry described her as a witch of fearsome talents, and she was feared almost as much as Voldemort himself.
Editor Educational-Bug-7985 shared that the fact that Bellatrix was “Voldemort’s right-hand man” was enough to prove that she was one of the best, and no other user could dispute that fact. What made Bellatrix really dangerous, however, was the fact that she was completely chaotic. She lacked any sense of restraint and apparently had no heart at all.
As a double agent, Snape had the advantage of learning how to fight from both Dumbledore and Voldemort, giving him a unique combination of both styles. Redditors couldn’t argue that while he probably couldn’t have defeated these masters himself, he was close to their level.
Educational-Bug-7985 pointed out that Snape had “held his ground against McGonagall, Flitwick, [and] Sprout,” while holding back to make sure he didn’t hurt any of them. It shouldn’t have been easy. Even his own death was a sign of his strength. discovered too soon.
Flight of death
No one could claim that Voldemort was among the best there ever was. Ever since he was at school, Voldemort has shown himself to be a prodigy of magic. The only reason he was defeated had nothing to do with his skills, but a lack of understanding of deeper forms of magic which resulted in a series of mistakes that cost Voldemort his victory.
Trahan94 and other Redditors used Voldemort to decide which most witches and wizards ended up on their list, comparing them to him to see who would be most likely to “survive Voldemort”.
It’s no surprise that Dumbledore came out on top in this debate. He was the only one Voldemort had ever feared, and the one who had conquered Grindelwald, despite his possession of the Elder wand. Audiences have heard in several books and movies how powerful Dumbledore was, but they finally got to see his strength in The order of the Phoenix when he confronted Voldemort.
Trahan94 points out that in this scene, Dumbledore “animates [a] statue” to fight for him, summons a whip made of flames, and traps Voldemort in an orb of water, creating one of the best dueling scenes in the entire series.
