Read Munroe Bergdorf’s Trans + Pride 2021 speech

Signs saying “legalize my identity!” “And” Trans rights now! Thousands of people took to the streets of London for Trans + Pride 2021 on Saturday June 26, to celebrate and make the voices of trans and non-binary people heard. Amid the cheerful crowds of Soho Square, activist, model and activist Munroe Bergdorf delivered a powerful speech directly to the trans community, urging those marching to ‘occupy this space’.

Bergdorf, who is considered one of Britain’s most important voices for trans rights, reflected on the scale of the event in front of an empowered crowd.

“Take a second to understand how important this is. As is necessary. How beautiful, ”said the activist, by New roses.

“When we have spaces like this, it’s a reminder to see God in each other. Whoever the god is. Higher power. Treat each other the way we want to be treated, ”she continued.

She added: “It’s not a moment. We are not a moment. This is our heritage … “

Bergdorf, who spoke out against JK Rowling‘s anti-trans comments last year, also reminded crowds not to let “silly countermovements” tear the community apart, referring to trans exclusion groups such as ” LGB Alliance ”and“ TERFs ”.

The famous activist went on to recognize the “strength” and “divinity” of the trans community among the “dehumanization” it faces in society.

“Living in a world that doesn’t see you, that ignores your suffering, that legislates against your existence, that strives to control your bodily autonomy, that both fetishes you and dehumanizes our image. It is divine: resist this daily, ”she said.

According to Pink News, Bergdorf added, “We always introduce ourselves and we show. And we continue. For me, it is divine. It is strength. It is worthy of love, respect and peace. You only have to look around to see how many of us really are. No matter how isolated we felt in our past, we are no longer silenced, we are no longer in the shadows, we are there. Take this space. This space is yours !

Bergdorf was the first to speak at the Trans + Pride 2021 event which is now in its third year and shared photos from the event on her Instagram page thanking the event organizers.

In response to his speech, fans shared their admiration in the comments: “Completely in awe of you today!” one said, and “The leadership and role model we need,” beamed another.
