Netflix’s # 1 Movie Is Epic New From A “Harry Potter” Star

The # 1 movie on Netflix this weekend is probably catching the attention of some Harry potter fans, with the star Tom Felton front and center on the sticker. The movie is called The forgotten battle, a historical drama in which Felton plays a British soldier fighting in World War II. It’s a brutal but moving portrayal of life on the front lines.

The forgotten battle is a Dutch film written by Paula van der Oest and directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. It is in Dutch, English and German, Felton speaking mainly English. For Americans and much of the global audience, Felton will be one of the film’s most recognizable stars, but the real main characters are played by Gijs Blom, Jamie Flatters and Susan Radder.

The film follows three main characters to give different perspectives – Blom plays a Dutch Axis soldier named Marinus van Staveren, Flatters plays a British Allied pilot named William Sinclair, and Radder plays a Zeeland Resistance woman named Teuntje Visser. All are involved in real historical actions of the Second World War in the fall of 1944, notably the Battle of Walcheren Causeway and the Battle of the Scheldt.

The film was initially released in December 2020, although theatrical release was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Netflix co-produced the film with the intention of airing it, and it finally arrived on the platform on Friday, October 15. So far, it seems to be a success.

Felton’s face undoubtedly helps attract audiences as he is one of the most recognizable stars in the Harry potter franchise. He played Draco Malfoy, and although he was a villain, he was undeniably a fan favorite. Behind the scenes, Felton was famous for his co-stars and remains friendly with them today.

Of all the main actors, Felton has perhaps remained the closest to the world of genre fiction. He had roles in The Flash, Origin and A babysitter’s guide to monster hunting, among others. Always, The forgotten battle proves Felton has the acting skills to pursue any genre he wants.

The film sits at number 5 in Netflix’s overall Top 10, with the top four being TV shows. Other high-ranking films this weekend included Go in style, Titanic and Jumanji, among others. The forgotten battle Now streaming on Netflix in the US
