Mum with the world’s largest Harry Potter collection spends £ 100 a month to expand it

There are some books that have had an incredible influence on the world, and the Harry Potter book series is one of them.

The magical world woven by JK Rowling still has an impact today – fans flocking to Watford to see the movie sets in real life.

Meanwhile, thousands of children are currently engrossed in what is going on at Hogwarts as their parents read to them at bedtime.

But if there was a ranking of the best fans – mom Tracey Nicol-Lewis, 47, would likely be in the lead.

The super-fan not only has the world’s largest collection of Harry Potter memorabilia, but even had a wizarding world-themed wedding.

She has 6,300 wizarding items, including wands, special edition books, LEGO sets, and artwork.

Tracey first watched “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” in 2002 after the birth of her son and fell in love with the wizarding world.

It didn’t take long for him to acquire his first Harry Potter collectible – a chocolate frog from his corner store.

Since then, his collection has grown and now occupies three complete rooms in his house.

Tracey loves the franchise so much that she even had a Harry Potter-themed wedding last year when she married her husband Martin, 45.

She wore a red and gold Gryffindor wedding dress, adorned with the symbols of the Deathly Hallows.

Meanwhile, her bouquet included torn pages from a damaged edition of the Goblet of Fire and her shoes painted with Dobby the Elf.

His devoted friends even attended in the robes of their Hogwarts house.

The mom credits JK Rowling‘s writings for helping her cope with the death of her first husband Simon Nicol-Lewis, who died in 2005.

He had pre-ordered “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” for her – and it arrived weeks after his death.

Tracey, from Mid Glamorgan, Wales, said: “I think ‘oh this is it, I won’t have any more’, and I go to the store and something always falls in my basket!

“I love looking and rearranging my collection – this is my happy place. Harry Potter is a magical world you can escape into, and that’s what I did.

“Because I had my son in 2002, and they had the baby in the movie and all the magic, it was like having him by my side.

“Harry Potter put me through a very difficult time because when I started collecting the last gift I gave my first husband was a Harry Potter book before he passed away.

“That’s why I think the collection has gone so crazy.”

Gradually, eBay’s offering and trading with friends expanded her collection, and Tracey reached her first 100 items around 2006.

His treasury now includes special editions of the books and their spinoffs, and at least 127 action figures

His biggest object is his cardboard display for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child“, which is five feet high.

She has never had her collection appraised, but estimates that she spends an average of £ 100 each month on new items.

The mom of one said: “Everything I love about my collection is just amazing, I love it.

“They also have memories attached to them because I can remember pieces from the movies or the books.”

Tracey also enjoys Harry Potter cosplay and attends events to meet other fanatics while dressed in her clobber.

His collection continues to grow

She says her favorite things change over time, but her currents are her collection of 47 wands.

But when she met her husband, Martin, he wasn’t immediately a fan of her hobby.

She said: “He knew about my collection so it was accept it or run!

“First of all, I said I love Harry Potter and collect Harry Potter, and he was a little shocked when he came and saw the collection.

“But in my last house, he decorated it in red and yellow because of Gryffindor and he set up shelves for me and made it more Harry Potter.

“Martin is amazing, he supports my collection and even buys me things for it.”

The family moved to a larger property in 2019 to accommodate the collection and now have three bedrooms dedicated to it.

Tracey said: “We need a lot of homework so I can’t have any more at the moment – but I’m working on it!

“People have told me that they want me to open the house and open a B&B! “

Tracey and Martin tied the knot after four years together in 2020 and enjoyed a lavish Potter-themed ceremony at Discovery Cove in Orlando, Florida, United States.

The wedding cake was topped with a snitch and a magic wand, along with the words ‘Martin has found a guardian’, referring to the Quidditch position.

Her Gryffindor-inspired wedding dress and shoes were made for her by her friends in the Harry Potter community.

She said: “I wanted a dress that I could have for my wedding but that I could wear on other occasions.

“Martin let me choose what I wanted so the tunes in and when you left were Harry Potter.

“My friends in Florida were over there in dresses.”

While security guard Martin doesn’t share his passion for the Wizarding World, it was his idea to count his collection for Guinness World Records.

Together, they took a photo of every item in her collection and also filmed the counting process – which took at least five hours.

She had a whopping 5,284 items when she was measured by Guinness World Records in April.

But since then the ‘Potterhead’ says she’s acquired at least 1,000 more.

“I still can’t believe I have a lot in my collection,” the housewife said.

“When it’s all over your room and you see it everyday, it’s only when someone walks in and sees it and they’re like ‘oh that’s a lot! “

“I’m looking for the pieces I want to complete from the missing sets, but other things seem to appear and I buy them instead.”

In April of this year, she received the happy news that she had not one, but two records, as she owned both the largest Harry Potter and Wizarding World collections.

The Wizarding World encompasses the “Fantastic Beasts” spinoff film series as well as the Potter universe.

She broke the previous record, also held by a Welsh superfan, of 2,187 articles.

“I didn’t think I had enough,” she admitted.

“I was over the moon, I couldn’t believe I had two Guinness World Records.”

Her dream is to one day meet author JK Rowling in person and thank her for how her series has changed her life.

Tracey said: “Be your own person, don’t follow everyone, follow your dreams.”
