A LEGO model inspired by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was almost on the cards for 2021, but was ultimately scrapped in favor of previous films.
The designers of the LEGO Group have previously said that the last two Potter films don’t align with company values as closely as the Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets and so on, but LEGO design master Marcos Bessa revealed to Brick fanatics that he has considered releasing at least one Deathly Hallows-based model in 2021.
The recently launched Hogwarts Icons Collector’s Edition 76391 features a collection of brick-built magical items from the early wizarding world films, complemented by a life-size rendition of Harry’s owl, Hedwig. These icons include a letter from Hogwarts, Harry’s glasses and wand, potions bottles and house scarves.
However, Marcos says he also briefly toyed with the idea of including another iconic symbol from the latest, darker Harry Potter book and films.
“At one point, I played around with a few other ideas,” Marcos says. “I started to think of a Deathly Hallows necklace and Neville’s Rememball, for example, but they just didn’t seem out of place when you consider the other items we design.”
While a brick necklace isn’t quite the same as the figure-based playsets based on the final films – which are currently top of most Potter fan’s wish lists – it technically would have makes 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition the first Deathly Hallows-themed Set since the Wizarding World line returned in 2018.
Better yet, it’s also another sign that the LEGO Group isn’t quite opposed to referring to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and adds further optimism to Marcos’ previous suggestion that the team could “squeeze” into future sets. Here’s hoping.
