The Last Worker, a first-person indie game about workplace automation, will feature Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs as a friendly robot ally.
A new trailer for the first-person narrative adventure game The last worker was revealed during the Guerrilla Collective 2022 livestream, and the game will include a Harry Potter actor. The upcoming sci-fi indie game will put players in the shoes of the only remaining human in a fully automated workplace. Summer Game Fest 2022 featured a number of exciting indie games, including a Oxenfree 2 gameplay trailer, and The last worker seems like another really unique title.
Developed by Oiffy and Wolf & Wood Interactive, The last worker takes a critical look at the growing automation of the real world. The title’s unique art style was hand-crafted by legendary comic book artist Mick McMahon, best known for co-creating Judge Drdd. The first-person title will see players go through the mundane daily routine of Kurt, the last remaining worker in the sprawling Jungle Fulfillment Center 1. Accompanied by robotic companion Skew, players will complete Kurt’s daily tasks before delving deeper into the facility disturbing. Guerrilla Collective 3.0 created the reveal trailer for RPG Fight Questand many other titles, but The last worker stands out thanks to its star-studded cast and unique premise.
A new dive into The last Workerlater posted on YouTube by IGN, was revealed during Guerrilla Collective 3.0. Writer and director Jörg Tittel walks viewers through an in-depth look at the game, which is set to feature a voice cast of iconic actors. Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, will star alongside Zelda Williams, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Clare-Hope Ashitey, David Hewlett and Tommie Earl Jenkins. While the initial gameplay seems to focus on sorting through packages using a gravity-defying gun, a group of activists called Spear will eventually recruit Kurt to perform stealth espionage. A free demo for The last worker is available now on Steam, with a full release planned for later this year.
Before Guerrilla Collective 3.0 and The last worker, Summer Game Fest 2022 had its own gameplay trailers to share. The digital event, hosted by Geoff Keighley, officially revealed gameplay for a number of highly anticipated titles like The Callisto Protocol and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. A cinematic trailer for Marvel’s Midnight Suns also revealed the game’s inclusion of Spider-Man and his nemesis Venom. Keighley announced The Last of Us: Part 1a complete remake of the beloved post-apocalyptic title, at the end of the Summer Game Fest 2022 stream.
The last worker looks like a compelling first-person adventure that deconstructs the modern conundrum of workplace automation. Creator Jörg Tittel promises the title will deliver drama, comedy, and horror in equal measure, and the voice work of professionals like Jason Isaacs will help achieve that goal. The Harry Potter star is known for portraying bad guys, but The last worker will instead present him as a humorous and helpful robot.
