The final entry into the Fantastic beasts trilogy, Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore, will focus heavily on Albus Dumbledore and his family, as he is not the only Dumbledore to appear in the trilogy. In 1997, readers discovered the Wizarding World in JK Rowling’s first novel. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first entry in a series of seven novels. Harry potter and the Wizarding World has become a cultural phenomenon, making way for a film saga, plays, theme park attractions, and additional material to develop this particular universe.
From 2001 Rowling began to expand the Harry potter universe with short books, and the debates of these have benefited various charities. The first one came fantastic beasts and where to find them, a guide written by fictional author Newt Scamander to magical creatures found in the wizarding world and which was one of the books Harry purchased for his first year at Hogwarts. After Fantastic beasts came more short books like Quidditch through the ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, but none had the impact that Fantastic beasts had, and so it was chosen for a big screen adaptation. Directed by David Yates, fantastic beasts and where to find them was released in 2016 and introduced the public to Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his eccentric personality, as well as two important characters from this series: Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller) and Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).
The second film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, added a young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) to the mix, making the conflict with Grindelwald more personal due to their shared history, and also dropped a big reveal right at the end: Credence’s true identity is that of Aurelius Dumbledore, the long lost brother. From now on, the plan of Fantastic beasts was to kick off a new wizarding world cinematic saga made up of five films, but it looks like it’s only going to be a trilogy, with Dumbledore’s secrets being the last chapter. As the title suggests, the story will focus on the Dumbledore family, and so far there are three Dumbledores who can appear in Fantastic Beasts 3.
The story of Credence Barebone can be quite confusing. When he was a baby he was taken by his aunt to a ship bound for America, and on board the ship was also a young Leta Lestrange, who, tired of the cries of her half-brother Corvus, the traded for Credence. The ship later sank and Corvus and Credence’s aunt drowned, while Credence survived and was later put up for adoption in America. Credence was adopted by a Muggle American woman (or No-Maj) who ran an anti-witchcraft group called the New Salem Philanthropic Society. Credence was physically and mentally abused by her foster mother as she wanted to suppress her magical abilities, and all of this abuse led her to become an Obscurial (a wizard or witch who develops a dark, parasitic magical force when their magic is suppressed. by abuse).
Credence eventually lost control of his Obscurus and created chaos in New York City, which in turn caught the attention of Gellert Grindelwald. Credence was reportedly killed at the end of Fantastic beasts, but an Obscurial cannot be killed while in its Obscure state, and therefore survived the Auror attack. Credence then embarked on a journey to find his true identity, leading him to Circus Arcanus, where he befriended Nagini. He eventually found Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 2, where he proved his loyalty to the dark wizard, confident that he would tell her all about his true identity. At the end of Fantastic Beasts 2, Grindelwald revealed to Credence that he was Aurelius Dumbledore and that the baby bird he had cared for was a phoenix who, according to legend, appears to those of the Dumbledore family in need. Fantastic Beasts 3, then, will surely continue to explore the backstory of Credence and confirm once and for all if he really is a Dumbledore (something fans of Harry potter are not on board with) or if it was a lie from Grindelwald to get him to do what he wants: kill Albus Dumbledore.
Albus Dumbledore has gone from being one of the wizarding world’s most beloved characters to one of the most mysterious, as many details about his story remain under wraps or are constantly evolving (as Rowling continues to change the Harry potter canon). Albus Dumbledore was a half-blood wizard, the son of Percival and Kendra Dumbledore, the latter being a muggle-born witch. Albus was the older brother of Aberforth and Ariana, and his backstory (as far as we know) is marked by tragedy. Percival died in Azkaban when Albus was young, and the event that started it all was an attack on Ariana. One day, she was attacked by a group of Muggle boys who got scared after seeing her do magic, which left her mentally and emotionally scarred, and her powers were severely altered, manifesting in such a way random or destructive. Seeking justice, Percival attacked the Muggle boys and was sent to Azkaban. Years later, Kendra was killed by one of Ariana’s outbursts of uncontrollable magic.
Albus then met Gellert Grindelwald, who moved in with his great aunt Bathilda Bagshot, a neighbor of the Dumbledores. The two wizards quickly bonded and their relationship turned romantic, and Albus even agreed with Grindelwald on his ideas of wizarding domination. However, Aberforth was worried and disgusted about it, and an argument turned into a duel between siblings Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Ariana tried to intervene but couldn’t, and a spell hit her, killing her instantly. Some time later, Albus returned to Hogwarts as a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, and Ariana’s death continued to haunt him. Fantastic Beasts 2 revealed that Albus and Grindelwald made a blood pact so that they would never duel each other, but the former is known to eventually defeat the latter. Albus’ role in Fantastic Beasts 3, then, will most likely see him break the blood pact so he can fight Grindelwald and defeat him for good, all the while learning more about his family background with the possibility of Credence being his brother and facing the truth about who really was Ariana’s killer.
Aberforth Dumbledore is the younger brother of Albus and the older brother of Ariana. Aberforth lived under his brother’s shadow during his time at Hogwarts, and although he preferred dueling over dialogue and was a great duelist, this skill was still unmatched by Albus. An argument with Albus over his dangerous ideas and those of Grindelwald and his neglect of Ariana led Grindelwald to use the Cruciatus Curse on Aberforth, which in turn gave way to the duel which ended in Ariana’s accidental death. . Aberforth attacked Albus at Ariana’s funeral and broke his nose, blaming him for their sister’s death, and so their relationship was severed for years. Aberforth later became the bartender at Hog’s Head Inn in Hogsmeade, which had a stint in the on-demand room at Hogwarts, which was of great help years later.
Aberforth joined the Order of the Phoenix and fought in the First Wizarding Wars, and after Albus’ death in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, he helped the Hogwarts students by bringing food and water through the aforementioned passage and kept an eye on Harry through a fragment of a one-way mirror. Aberforth joined the fight at the Battle of Hogwarts and survived the Second Wizarding War, after which he returned to his pub life. Now Aberforth has not appeared in Fantastic beasts Still, but if the film fits into Albus’ family history, he will have to introduce himself, and in the process, his relationship with his brother can also be explored, as well as what really happened in the duel that killed him. Ariana.
