Have you ever considered going on a plant-based diet, but never really knew where to start? Well, the nonprofit organization Veganuary wants to help you kick-start your new lifestyle this month. If you need a little more advice from a familiar face, the wizarding world’s favorite vegan, Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), will also help on your journey. This month, Veganuary released its annual cookbook full of plant-based recipes from some of your favorite celebrities, including Evanna’s recipe. Recently, Evanna appeared on a talk show to promote the cookbook, discuss her transition to veganism and her experience filming the 20th anniversary reunion.
Evanna Lynch’s recipe for Shepherdless Pie was recently featured in Veganuary’s annual celebrity vegan cookbook.
The Six O’Clock Show, an Irish evening talk show, had the opportunity to speak with Evanna for being featured in Veganuary’s annual celebrity cookbook, in which she contributed her mother’s recipe for Shepardless Pie. As we all know, Evanna is an ardent animal rights activist and for ethical reasons she completely transitioned to veganism in 2015. Regarding her transition, the hosts asked her if the change was difficult, to which Evanna confirmed that was the case, citing “emotional attachments to certain foods.” Overall, she had to learn to reframe the logic behind the lifestyle change to prevent it from overwhelming her:
People always think of veganism as, “Oh, what are you deleting? What don’t you eat? But you have to think differently. You add new things to your diet and try lots of things. You won’t like everything and you will find things you actually like. It takes a bit of trial and error.
She provides very pragmatic advice to anyone interested in embarking on a new way of life.
And of course the conversation moved to the Harry Potter films and his participation in the recently aired show Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special. From her experience reuniting with former cast members, Evanna explains that her situation is quite different from that of her colleagues in that she started her tenure on the Potter films a little later than the others, which first appeared in 2007 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and feeling “privileged” to always be included.
It’s strange that I’ve been in the unusual position in movies in that I’ve come halfway. So when they remembered about 20 years, for me it’s 15 years. Twenty years ago, I was just a fan watching them with everyone. So to be kind of included in that core group, to be invited back to the meeting was very, very special. I felt really privileged.
She went on to reiterate her deep connection to the Potter series after discovering her while she was hospitalized at age 11. It’s a great story she’s told before and you can read about it in more detail in her memoir, The opposite of chasing butterflies.

Finally, since she was originally a fan of the books and movies, the animators mentioned how she met Daniel Radcliffe, to which she replied that she was still dazzled.
I’m always. I can’t be normal with him. I’m trying. He’s very nice, he’s very friendly. I think he’s charismatic and he tries hard to make people feel welcome.
Having read many interviews with Daniel in the past, she always understood how neurotic he was, so she was a huge fan and always finds it difficult to talk to him. A pretty adorable anecdote, but it makes sense that it’s always hard to shake off your admiration for someone when you’ve been a fan for so long.
