Athlete of the week: 10 questions with Jackson Munro, New Trier basketball player

Jackson Munro is a senior forward for the Trevians. The 6-foot-8 Munro recently signed up to play for Dartmouth College next year.

1. Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?

On game day, when I go to school – so we wear a warm-up suit on game day – I always wear my uniform underneath all day.

2. Why is Dartmouth good for you?

Academically Dartmouth is world class and that matches my personality in that sense, but I also loved the campus when I was there and hanging out guys when I was there, and I loved the coaching staff. They haven’t gained much lately and I think the opportunity to have a chance to turn the tide and be part of a culture change is really cool.

3. What do you have to do with your game to make an impact at the college level?

I think the main thing will be to gain weight and get stronger. Every trainer I’ve spoken to thinks I’m really good but still points out my body and I have to add weight to play in college given my position.

4. What would be your dream job?

Honestly, I love basketball. I would love to train in basketball. More precisely, my dream job would be to train in New Trèves. So maybe (New Trier head coach Scott) Fricke can help me out at some point.

5. If you played another sport, what would it be?

I think it would be tennis. I played tennis a lot when I was younger. My mom’s side is really good at tennis. My aunt actually won a national championship in Florida playing tennis, so I always played when I was younger and was pretty good. I just didn’t like it. … But now, when I play for fun, I like it.

6. Do you have a favorite athlete?

Nikola Jokic (NBA). It’s a center for the Denver Nuggets. I love to watch him play. I think our games are really similar. It gives me a lot of joy to watch it.

7. What is your favorite activity off the pitch?

Off the pitch my favorite thing to do would be just to read or I also really enjoy building Legos. I have made a lot of large Lego sets and for Christmas or my birthday I always ask for a big one.

8. If you are at Walgreens with a few dollars, what do you buy?

Probably a Gatorade protein bar and just lemonade or something.

9. What don’t people know about you?

Probably I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. I read all the books and I love all the movies. When I was little, I played the Harry Potter Lego video game. Now, I don’t really watch a lot of movies, and the only movies I will be watching are the Harry Potter movies, the Marvel movies, and “Star Wars”.

10. What can Tréviens accomplish this year?

I honestly think we can accomplish just about anything. We can win a state championship. We are so talented. I think it’s just going to be a matter of figuring out what we’re not good at and probably most of that will be on the defensive side and if we can just get our effort and intensity to be on the defensive side of the game. ball, we have a good chance of beating anyone in the state and really have a deep run.
